MEET THE ARTIST
Kristin Kuipers
Finding unexpected beauty
between the layers.
Kristin Kuipers is a Bay Area abstract artist based in Pleasanton, California. Originally from Washington State and of German and Lebanese descent, she has long been influenced by vibrant cultures, travel and the character of layered places. She has lived in the Netherlands, Belgium and Boston before settling in California.
Creativity has been a constant throughout her life—from painting and exhibiting during her school years to working in advertising design across print and visual media.
Working primarily in acrylic and mixed media, Kristin creates intuitive abstractions inspired by travel, organic forms in nature and the inner and outer worlds of self-expression. She describes the beginning of her process as a “joyful mess,” where chaos gradually gives way to a beautiful calm.
She embraces the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what each painting will become, following color, texture and expressive marks as the work unfolds. Through each piece, she hopes to create a sense of discovery—and bring joy to others.
